All business decisions, either big or small, are evaluated with our planet’s health and social harmony in mind.
Cherub's Blanket is a locally-owned company based just a few blocks away from Adooka Organics in Shaker Heights, OH. Mary, the owner, works with local sewers for small production, larger U.S. shops for larger runs, and with a Cleveland non-profit that provides sewing training for individuals with barriers to employment.
Mary believes in preserving families, and the environment. She supports the Cradle to Cradle philosophy: all materials should enrich and benefit the environment through their life cycle, as products are manufactured, used, and naturally return to the earth. She incorporates sustainable policies in everything Cherub's Blanket does. The packaging of the blankets was carefully designed with recycled and recyclable items. The boxes are 100% recycled paper. The products are heirloom quality.
Lynette Damir, RN, CEO and Creative Director, founded SwaddleDesigns in 2002. The inspiration for SwaddleDesigns was sparked when Lynette visited families with new babies in their homes and she noticed they struggled with swaddling for two reasons. First, the blanket they were using was too small or too thick, and second, they could not remember how to make a good secure swaddle. The parents consistently asked her to share the secret of the hospital nurses - how to swaddle.
Lynette designs all of SwaddleDesigns products and exclusive prints, and she selects every component based on its color, texture, durability and quality. She designs with baby‛s best interest in mind and to help new parents. The vast majority of her products are sewn in Seattle, Washington. SwaddleDesigns is proud to be creating American jobs and exporting products to Europe, Asia, Australia, and the Americas.
A trained educator and lifelong sewer, Izabela first encountered cloth diapers in 1998 while working with young children at a YMCA in Canada. She loved both the cuteness and environmentally-consciousness of reusable diapers. After her daughter was born in 2003, she designed, sewed, and tested the first Bum-Ware all-in-one diaper. Over a period of months, she tested and developed her product, launching Bum-Ware diapers in 2004. The diapers are sewn in eastern Pennsylvania. They are extremely high-quality and stand the test of time.
